The 'Dice House' is a zero carbon home designed to be a powerful eye-catching form either as a stand alone property or as repeated attached dwellings. The strong 9 x 9 x 9 metre cube form sits on an octagonal plinth, which is set back from the facade of the house above it to emphasise the outline of the Die. The front and rear facades are broken up by generous glazing and openings which maximise access and views to surrounding public and private spaces.

As an adaptation of the traditional terrace, the Dice can be connected side by side with solid party walls between. The generous interior provides flexible living space spread over three levels above the plinth. Each floor is designed to have a distinct character, whilst maintaining a strong overall architectural language and identity. The garden roof is capped by an openable greenhouse space under a large thermoplastic ETFE 'Umbrella' which acts to shade and insulate the structure as well as collect and store solar energy. This clever use of the roof space not only increases energy efficiency but also helps the Dice House maximise its 9 x 9 metre site, freeing up the surrounding area.
