A quiet street in Double Bay, Sydney is exactly the sort of area where one can discover a precious Marni boutique tucked away behind the period façade of an historic listed building. The very nature of this historic property allows only a very slender store width and this has directly influenced the design. Length and perspectives are used to dramatic effect with the two long and sinuous stainless steel rails which meander and wrap around the side walls. Carrying the ‘ready-to-wear’ collections, they appear to glide across the natural teak wood flooring.

A curvaceous white lacquer step occupies one wall under the rail down the entire length of the shop, displaying accessories and shoes. This wall is panelled in white gloss lacquer, culminating in a curved wall of flexible, randomly scattered display ‘petals’ in various muted tones and textures (ranging from polished steel, plastic to natural timbers). Stainless steel ‘tree’ displays sprout out of the step through elliptical cut-outs and drape into the space to give the store a very intimate feel.
